The current world is the information age whereby people make their decisions based on the information they collect. The amount of data they receive and the speed at which they get them as well as their essence in their lives has a significant influence on their decisions. Nevertheless, it is essential to concentrate on whether the information gathered is real and is based on the real truth of the matter which has the correct interpretation. Unfortunately, due to some circumstances, some information which is given out there sometimes tends to be false, or half-truth made up or just interpreted either through intentions or unintentionally. This paper looks into the essence of statistics in science and technology whereby it focuses on the pyramid of Cheops and analyses how statistics, in that case, was essential.

Statistics in Science

            Statistics in science has been utilized as one tool for acquiring credibility in the information that is applied in various circumstances. It is imperative to have a mechanism whereby the data which is generated from it can be probably true. Science entails the system or method of acquiring knowledge, and its primary objective is discovering the truth. Scientists focus on coming up with new knowledge whereby, in this case, they only focus on the fact (Proctor,2018). The scientific community, therefore, calls for high levels of transparency and integrity so that the results from research done will show the truth by the statistics recorded. Where false information is allowed to be given, people are less likely to believe in the gathered data by the scientists who will render science an invalid discipline. To avoid such instances, there are specific guidelines which were implemented to be utilized by scientists in the search for knowledge. Therefore, it is essential for upcoming scientists to act according to the scientific techniques in their research operations.

Moreover, scientists need to think in a scientific way whereby their ability to reason while using statistical information must come up with logical solutions for every solution which then lead to meaningful conclusions (Bui, 2011). Scientific reasoning operates by three things which are the application of empirical evidence, having a sceptical attitude and logical thinking. By the help of statistics, scientists can acquire empirical evidence which they can be able to hear, smell, touch or taste. This evidence is that which other people can be able to experience and is reversible.Empirical evidence stands as the only type of proof that is applied by scientists to come up with decisions and make reasonable conclusions.  

According to science, logic is not an inborn skill but a learned skill which is acquired in the process of growth. To most people, they prefer believing that something is right because they have a feeling, hope and wish it could be true but inside them, they have a sense of denial to accept that what they believe in is false (Proctor, 2018). Having a skeptical attitude entails constant questioning of the beliefs and conclusions. Qualified scientists are continually evaluating the arguments, evidence and reasons for their beliefs. For skeptics, they tentatively believe and will be ready to do away with their opinions only in cases where there is new evidence to prove otherwise.

Statistics in the Pyramid of Cheops

            The pyramid of Cheops is recognized as the most massive pyramids in the world which were constructed with the motive of honoring Pharaoh as the ruler of Egypt during the old kingdom era. The ancient kingdom was recognized as the very first era in the Egyptian civilization which lasted from 2686 to 2181 BCE (Bui, 2011). The pyramid complex at Giza was made up of three pyramids and a sphinx statue and is currently located outside Cairo, Egypt. Being the largest pyramid in the world, it is 480 feet high. The figure is believed to have been made in honor and resemblance of Pharaoh Khafra who stands at the side of the pyramid. In each of the monuments, there is a centre formed out of their complex structures which encompass chambers, cemeteries and small tombs.

 Historically the pyramids were constructed all over Ancient Egypt as a way of showing Pharaoh’s power. After the death of Pharaoh, his body was mummified and entombed in one of the pyramids together with some of his valuable possessions to use in his afterlife (Morishima et al., 2017). The Egyptians believed that Pharaoh was a semi-divine being who was a rule on earth and then went to the afterlife with the gods. Religion was the heart of the Egyptian society and Pharaoh was recognized as both a secular and a religious leader.

            In the case of the pyramid of Cheops, statistics is seen to be of great importance in keeping and maintaining records about the past life of the Egyptians. Data collected in the early ages is used to track the progress of the Egyptians in terms of their history and development as a society (Proctor, 2018). Moreover, Statistical analysis which is done through observation has enabled the researchers to come up with reasonable conclusions concerning the pyramids which have allowed them to document the information in various publications. People who can gather information, write reports and come up with sound conclusions need to have a good understanding of the statistics field.

Statistics is universally accepted as an essential tool for every type of research. The aspect has led to an increase in the number of statistical procedures which has made it difficult to match the right technique for a particular experiment. Selection of the proper analytical method to apply in the pyramid of Cheops case, therefore, was based on the knowledge of the researcher in statistics as well as the history of the monuments. Statistics is likely to be misused by researchers who have little or no information on the right statistical procedures and concepts.

            Diversity is an essential natural element which gives room for evolution and adaptation to the dynamic environment on earth through the effect of variation. Every object or subject under study will have differences in terms of height, color, size and even the shape. In this case, statistics helps to differentiate all these variations which make the researcher have a definite stand on how the object looks like (Lohr, 2009). Moreover, through statistics, they can be able to spot the difference between the object under study and another one of the same type. For instance, in the pyramid of Cheops, statistics show the difference between the three pyramids by giving an outline of the height of each one of them. Statistics, therefore, proves that despite the variation in every population of the parameter under study, there are still differences between them.

Statistics also help in validating hypothesis whereby a guess made initially can be approved after the correct information is gathered and compared from the initial conclusions (Kaufman &Rosenthal, 2009). In this case, a guess was made about the highest and the lowest pyramid among the three, but after collection of data, the information was validated through the provision of the exact figures of the pyramids heights. From statistics also, it is possible to make conclusions about a particular phenomenon which is done by combining the data collected and reasoning that entail logical. Without having clear statistics of the pyramids, it would be challenging to make conclusions or even judgments about what takes place in the monuments.

In conclusion, science is about making discoveries in reliable knowledge concerning nature. Stable nature is that which is highly probable of being true due to the veracity that has been justified through a valid method. By use of statistics, it is possible to evaluate knowledge and give explanations on the evident events in nature through natural causes without making assumptions of the supernatural existence. Scientists apply statistics and reasoning to come up with tentative hypotheses for different physical phenomena. The predictions obtained from these phenomena are then evaluated through various experiments which can be easily reproduced. An essential element of theories is that it should be readily conceived to prove the falseness of the hypothesis. After an explanation has been validated through experiment, it is then regarded as a theory where new predictions can be made concerning it. Scientific methods are applied by scientific communities to come up with supportable evidence-based comprehensions of the natural world.
